Deon is a non-typical chartered accountant contributing to the governance, risk and assurance space. As an international speaker on topics of ESG, business continuity, cybersecurity, big data, artificial intelligence and risk-based auditing, he focuses on disrupting the normal. As a technical specialist, he advises Directors and C-suite Executives on strategy and risk radars over the short, medium and long term. His passion is to influence future leaders and change the ethical culture of business to ensure future sustainability. Their group of companies is invested in many ESG projects across South Africa and mentor more than 500 future leaders in the government sector to improve service delivery. He designed and implemented several governance and risk management frameworks across the African continent. He is an avid supporter of combined assurance as a tool to enable Boards of Directors to improve decision-making. He is associated with the University of Stellenbosch, Hochshule Kehl and Solusi University, and owns two educational institutions: – Next Step Academy and Agile Online Learning. He is married with two kids and a grandchild. He participates in ironman events and is an avid mountainbiker.
